DCYF Community Convener

New Community Conveners Will Strengthen Ties in all SF Neighborhoods

For the first time, DCYF is now funding Community Conveners to improve the coordination and efficiency of children, youth, and family services throughout the city. This exciting effort will employ trusted community organizations to:

  • Improve the coordination of services to meet community needs and challenges
  • Plan and promote community-wide events
  • Promote resource sharing and referrals among agencies
  • Enhance communication between CBOs and public agencies
  • Facilitate cross-organization problem solving

Each Community Convener will develop, strengthen and maintain a coordinated network of children, youth and family service providers. These neighborhood networks will include private and nonprofit service providers as well as public agencies including schools, libraries, recreation centers and health centers. The 20 Community Conveners will communicate regularly, building bridges between service providers and finding creative methods to serve the needs of all San Francisco children, youth and families.

Each organizations funded as Community Conveners will:

  • Produce a list of neighborhood resources - a printed guide, website, poster, etc - depending on the needs of that neighborhood
  • Hold regular meetings with neighborhood service providers
  • Organize at least 2 community events per year sponsored by the local network
  • Serve as information hubs about San Francisco family events and services
  • Participate in regular meetings of all Community Conveners to coordinate efforts citywide
  • Design and implement a mini-grant program for parents with children ages 6 to17 in their respective neighborhoods. This mini-grant program will support key parent-led activities including organizing, parent education, peer support, and family activities.
