Mission Advocacy
The Mission Community Council seeks to engage community members in advocating for the needs of their neighborhood - truly allowing them to sustain the vitality of their community as they define and represent their needs. This can take on many forms - from getting involved in the City Budget Process, to pushing for the collaborative agendas set in Council workgroups, and holding others accountable to the communities priorities. Take a look at what we're doing.
Budget Advocacy Meetings
Community Members and organizations have met with the heads, and representatives of City Departments and important players in the City Budget process with the desired outcomes of:
- Bringing Mission Stakeholders to undersand the budget process
- Sharing information about challenges and opportunities for funding
- Creating opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing, and
- Collaborating to bring a unified presence/voice for increasing overall investment and support to promote the well-being of our community.
From January through March of 2007, community members met with advocates from the People's Budget, the deparment heads from MOCD and DCYF, and representatives from DPH.
Town Hall Meetings
In Spring and Fall of each year, Mission Community Council members get together at Town Hall meetings, to discuss issues of importance to the community, engage in dialogue about ways of addressing these issues, and plan for taking action. At the November 2006 meeting, Council members got together in workgroups to flesh out their particular areas of concern surrounding the Council priorities of Services for Immigrants, Services for Youth, and Affordable Housing.
